Ways to Build Confidence and Rebuild Your Life.

Many successful individuals credit their confidence to their success. However, not many people know how to build confidence or what they can do to become more confident.

This is tricky, as confidence is the result of different things. Self-confidence is a feeling of trust in your qualities, abilities, and judgment. Studies show confidence is vital to your psychological well-being and health.

With a healthy level of self-confidence, you can become more successful in your professional and personal life. It plays a role in motivation to explore your goals and can affect how you interact with other people. Here are strategies you can use to boost your confidence, presented by personal life coach Jamaal "Trell" Cottrell.

Take Care of Your Body

It can be difficult to feel good if you’re always abusing your body. If you practice self-care, you will be doing something positive for your spirit, body, and mind, so you’ll naturally feel better. Some of the self-care tips you should explore include taking a good diet, which offers many benefits, including higher levels of self-esteem and self-confidence.

Also, embrace exercise, as studies show it can boost confidence because of improved body image. As a part of self-care, ensure you get enough sleep, as this is linked with positive personality traits. When paired with a healthy, well-balanced diet, exercise can work wonders on your confidence and self-esteem.

Be Kind to Yourself

You also need to embrace self-compassion, which includes treating yourself with kindness. This is a way of relating to yourself that helps you become more emotionally flexible, so you’re able to navigate challenging emotions better. It also enhances your connection with other people, improving your relationships.

If your job is the reason, you’re not mentally stable, you should consider a career change. While pursuing options, don’t set the bar too low, but move through the anxiety and fear and start something that will help you to create experiences you can build on.

Practice Positive Self-Talk

Embracing self-talk that is optimistic will help you foster self-compassion, take on new challenges, and can empower you to overcome self-doubt. On the other hand, engaging in negative self-talk will limit your abilities and could lessen your confidence as it convinces your subconscious that you cannot handle the situation, or some things are too hard to try.

Whenever you think you should not speak up or that you’re out of shape, you should remind yourself that your thoughts are never always accurate. If you feel you cannot do something, you should instead remind yourself you can do it, or all you need to do is to try.

Face Your Fears

Avoid putting things off because you’re worried you might not deliver the performance you want. To build confidence, you must face your fears. Explore the fears that stem from the lack of self-confidence. If you’re worried, you could embarrass yourself, or you’re worried you’ll mess up, do it anyway. Take this as an experiment to see what could happen.

In the process, you’ll learn that being anxious or making some mistakes is not as bad as you think. Each time you move forward, you’ll gain more confidence, which eventually helps you prevent risks that could result in major negative consequences.

Conclusion

Everyone struggles with confidence at some point. Fortunately, you have things you could do that will help you feel more confident. Knowing how to act confident will help you feel more confident. Start with taking care of your body, then focus on your mental health for overall improvement. If you need help making all these points connect, consider working with personal life coach and professional development mentor Jamaal "Trell" Cottrell.

Psychological fitness — or mental health — can be measured by assessing levels of anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, satisfaction, positive relationships, responsibility and competence. A person with high anxiety levels and poor relationships is not as psychologically fit as someone with low anxiety levels and rich relationships.
